William Goodridge was born in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire in 1821. During the 1840's he moved to Horsham and married in early 1848. William died in 1877 and Jane lived on until 1901.
They had six children:
John was born in December 1848. He moved to Brighton in 1868, in 1871 he married Sarah Jane Hylden (died 1885): the had one child:
Sarah Ann Edith was born in 1873. After her mother died she became known as Edith.
In October 1885 he married for a second time to Sarah's cousin, Emma Povey: they also had one child:
John Povey was born above the butchers shop in June 1890. He married Hester Batten in 1923 and they had three children:
Elizabeth, known as Betty was born in 1925
Joan was born in 1926
John was born after the family had moved to Devon in 1932.

Elizabeth was born in 1850. She married James Tidy in November 1880 and they had four children:
Lily was born in 1881
May was born in 1883
Fred was born in 1884
Charley was born in 1885

William was born in 1853. He married Mary Nightingale also in November 1880. They had no children.

Fanny was born in 1861.

Harry was born in 1863. He married Emily Nichols in 1889 and they had three children:
William was born in 1890
Jane was born in 1897
