Sarah Jane Goodridge 1855 - 1927

Sarah Jane Goodridge

Sarah Jane was the daughter of William and Jane Goodridge and was born is 1855 in Horsham. She was the fourth of six children with John, William, Elizabeth, Fanny and Harry as her siblings.

The 1861 Census list her father as a Milkman and her mother as a Dairywoman. Sarah is listed as a scholar along with her older brothers and sister. The Goodridge family are shown to have been living in North Street in Horsham.

Sarah was 16 years old at the time of the 1871 Census, she has left school and her occupation is show as a Dairyman's daughter. Her father's occupation is a Dairyman and her mother as a Dairyman's wife. It is reasonable to assume that Sarah and her mother are assisting William Goodridge in his dairy business. By the time of the 1871 Census both her older brothers have left home along with her older sister. The family were living at Bowling Green, Horsham so had moved at sometime during the preceding decade.

Her father, William died in 1877 and by the 1881 Census her mother had retired. She is show as a mother helper with her brother Harry an 18 year old milkman. Her sister Fanny was a milliner. The  family was still living at Bowling Green, Horsham.

By the time of the 1891 Census Sarah, her mother and sister Fanny have moved to 36, Gladstone Road, Horsham. The three of them are recorded as living off their own means.

Mrs Jane Goodridge died before the next Census in 1901 as sisters Sarah and Fanny are living together again living off their own means.

The 1911 Census records that they have moved to Chalfont in Depot Road, Horsham. She and her sister had moved into this address on July 15th 1905.

Sarah died on 25th June 1927 after living her entire life as a resident of the Sussex town.

Sarah Jane Goodridge was John Povey Goodridge's Aunt.
