Lily Streeter nee Tidy 1881 - 1982

Lily Tidy was the eldest child of James and Elizabeth. She was born on 25th September 1881 in Southwater, Sussex and was baptised at Holy Innocents Church in the village on 13th November that year. Her first home was Bottings Hill and her father worked as a cattle dealer.

By the age of 10 Lily had 3 siblings, May, born in 1883, Fred, 1884 and Charley, 1885. The census for 1891 records that the family were living at 66, Station Road, Horsham. Brothers Fred and Charley were born in Roffey so the family had moved at least twice in the first decade of Lily’s childhood.

In 1901 the Tidy’s had moved again, this time to Albert House in Denne Road in Horsham. Lily was living with her parents, sister May and younger brother Charley. Her father was working as a horse slaughterer, May was a pupil teacher and Charley and apprentice butcher. At the time of the 1901 census Lily was 19 years old.

On 5th August 1905 Lily married David Streeter in Horsham. She was 23 and her husband 26.
A son, Reginald was born in the last quarter of 1906. The 1911 census records that she, her husband who the postcards reveal was known as Dave along with Reginald were living at 36, Gladstone Road, Horsham. This was the former home of her maiden aunts, Sarah and Fanny who had moved to Chalfont in Depot Road.

Her husband, Dave died on 17th April 1950 and Lily lived to celebrate her 100th birthday. She passed away on 22nd February 1982, her address is recorded I the National Probate Calendar as 60b, Queen Street in Horsham.

Lily Streeter nee Tidy was John's 1st Cousin.
