A postcard from Mary Goodridge to her sister-in-law after a visit to the Crawley fair in May 1905.

The White Hart, Lewes

Edith asked her brother if he was collecting china. She also ordered a piece of beef on 19th September 1904.

Rotten Row, Lewes

On 16th May 1907, Edith was concerned about the lack of feed for the ducks. She wrote, "please think of them soon."

The Palace Pier, Brighton

A postcard sent by Edith, the message indicates that John had provided her with it and others to add to his collection. Sent on 21st June 1905 and haymaking must have been imminent.

Malling Hill Windmill. Lewes

This post card was sent by Edith 3 days after fire destroyed the Malling Hill windmill on September 8th 1908.

Hampton Court Palace

May Tidy became choosy about which post cards she would collect in October 1903.

May was John's cousin who lived in Horsham nearly all of her life. She was born in Southwater in 1883 and lived to the age of 102.

E. Weller, Hawksbourne

A post card to John Goodridge senior from his sister in law Mary, Ted, Tedy and Willie. John's brother, the farmer at Hornbrook Farm in Horsham was christened William so he would have been the Willie. The 1911 Census reveals that William and Mary had any children so Ted and Tedy remain a mystery. The 1881 Census records that Mary and her husband were living at Hawksbourne Farm at that time. William employes 2 labourers and a boy on the 100 acre farm.

East Street, Horsham

A post card from John's Auntie Elizabeth that asked him to spot his Uncle in the picture that illustrates this card. The relation may have been Elizabeth's husband, Jim Tidy.  Best guess is the first man the right.

Lombard Street, Petworth

A post card from Petworth to Miss Hurst. Google Streetview reveals that Lombard Street has change some since 1905 and St Mary's would seem to have lost it spire. The church spire was painted by JMW Turner in 1827.

Lynmouth

A card from Edith written on an evening when John was going to be entertained at the Hippo. He enjoyed variety theatre. One of his grandsons lived with him in the early 1970's and says that they watched Monty Pythons Flying Circus together and says that John found the show very funny.

The Bandstand, Worthing

Majorie appears to have been born in Eastbourne in 1900 or 01 and the post cards would suggest that she was a regular visitor to Edith and Percy.

Old Hastings

Edith wanted a joint of beef as the Aunties were going to visit!

August 8th 1904 was a Wednesday.

Edith wanted a joint of mutton delivered. Their Dad, John Goodridge was expected to go to Lewes on the following Wednesday.
