A postcard from Sarah Jane celebrating John's 16th birthday. This is one of Thomas Honeywood's series of cards with images of Horsham from the mid 1800s. John's grandparents, William and Jane are recorded on the 1861 Census as being residents of North Street with their 5 children: John, Elizabeth, William, Sarah and Fanny.

East Street, Horsham

Although this postcard is signed "With love from Auntie" the handwriting shows that it was from Sarah Jane.

In a town centre that has seen many developments since the 1970s, it is surprising to see so many building from the early 1900s or before still in use in East Street. The Pub is now a restaurant and the motor engineers is a Satellite TV hardware business.

The Horsham Stocks

A postcard from Sarah to her brother, he was born in Horsham in 1848 so may have had memories of the stocks. This card is similar to a Francis Frith in style as the typeface is like this card also posted in 1907.

The West Sussex County Times published a photo of stocks being placed in Horsham as a feature when the town was being redeveloped in 1981.

When sent this was a 58 year old photograph of Horsham Old Town Mill. The postcard was sent by Sarah Jane Goodridge, John's aunt.

Horsham from Denne Hill

A postcard from Sarah Jane to her sister-in-law Emma. The two cousins, Johnnie and Willie were going to have an enjoyable holiday in Horsham in July 1907.

A post card of King's Road in Horsham to John Goodridge's sister Sarah. She hoped he was feeling better and that his wife's foot was improving. No doubt having his son working full time in the business made it easier to keep the shop and farm running.

A post card to John Goodridge from his sisters, Fanny and Sarah. The photograph is of The Carfax in 1855. John was born in 1849 in Horsham so would have known the Carfax captured in this image when he was a child.

A post card from Auntie Sarah to John. The image of Hurst Road in Horsham illustrates an agricultural nature to this area just to the north of the town centre. John's grandparents William and Jane had a small holding at Bowling Green that was on the south side of Hurst Road.
