This post card is from John's 1st cousins William, Jane and Harry Goodridge. Their father, also called Harry was a butcher whose shop was at 6, Richmond Street, Brighton.
John P Goodridge's daughter Betty said there were at one time three Goodridge butchers shops in Brighton. She was born in the family home above the shop at 26, Upper St James Street. There were also two farms run by the Goodridge brothers. Ham Lane Farm in Lewes was operated by John Goodridge and Hawkesbourne farm by his brother William.

John Goodridge purchased his first butcher shop at 26 Upper St James Street on 25th July 1872. The 1890 Kellys Directory lists a second shop at 1, Grand Parade, Brighton and the 1891 census records that his brother, Harry was living above the shop with his wife, son and William Meads who worked as an errand boy in the shop.

The 1901 census records that Harry was a butcher: shopkeeper (trading in his own name) at 6 Richmond Street where he and family lived above the shop. He also employed a live-in butchers assistant, Percy Tobutt. The 1905 Kellys Directory confirms that the business traded as Harry Goodridge.
